All public hearings regarding the proposed 2006 Park Bond Referendum have concluded. Thank you for your interest and participation in the numerous public hearings that were held in 2006 regarding the bond election. This bond passed with a 76% majority vote. The Board of County Supervisor’s approved a Bond Referendum for Park Improvements on July 25, 2006. In November, Prince William County residents will be voting on the first General Obligation Bond to improve county parks since 1998. If approved by the voters, the Bond would provide $27M for open space acquisition, indoor community center improvements, sports field improvements, trail improvements and expansion of the County’s skate park facility.

The Bond would allow Prince William County to improve or expand existing park facilities, improve efficiency and usability of sports fields, and add open space to preserve additional parkland.

Land Acquisition: $3.M (Location Pending) Land would be purchased to increase open space at some existing parks and preserve open space in developing areas for future parks. Exact locations are to be determined by land availability at the time Bond sales are completed by the county finance office. 2. Indoor Center Expansions: $11.M Improvements to Ben Lomond Community Center which serves the Gainesville and Brentsville Districts and Chinn Aquatics and Fitness Center which serves the Coles, Occoquan, Neabsco and the Woodbridge Districts. 3. Trails Development: $.75M (Location Pending) Funds would improve/increase trail inventory and be supplemented by Trails Grants and Community Partnerships. 4. Locust Shade Park: $4.5M One of the county’s oldest parks would receive utility (water and electric power) upgrades and improvements to some revenue generating operations and add indoor program space. 5. Fuller Heights Park Phase I: $4.5M Development of parkland purchased previously would develop sports fields and develop a community park in Triangle. 6. Hellwig/ Independent Hill: $5.M Relocation of sports fields from the county landfill project, increase parking. 7. Sports Field Improvements: $2.5M (Location Pending) Improvements to usability of existing fields by adding lights, and various improvements to turf on selected fields throughout the community. Locations determined by user rankings.  The following facilities are currently being considered:   .Neabsco Eagles Park   .Howison Homestead Park   .Veterans Park   .Hellwig Park   .Long Park   .Beville Middle School   .Godwin Middle School   .Turley Fields   .Leitch Baseball/softball 8. Veterans Park Improvements: $.75M Expands skate park facility at Veterans Memorial Park and adds lights to an existing ball field at that park.
