Although commenting on the blog is an excellent way to express anopinion, the best way to get your voice heard is by attending public meetings.  Park Authority public meetings are advertised in local newspapers and at the Park Authority Headquarters at George Hellwig Park. Also, check our homepage and become a fan on Facebook to receive notices of upcoming meetings.

It’s a wrap! Yesterday, at the final Veteran Memorial Park skatepark design meeting, attendees settled on a design for the new park. It features a mix of street skating elements, bowls and a vert ramp.

Park Chatter is ringing in the New Year with an overview of upcoming projects for 2010. This year will bring a lot of infrastructure changes around the Park Authority. Although many of our biggest projects may not produce visible changes to the parks, pools and recreation centers near to you, they will keep the properties functioning well for years to come.

Included on this list are projects confirmed for 2010. However, new developments are likely to spring up in the coming 12 months. Here’s a current overview:

The Homeschool Theater Troupe is putting on the English classic story collection The Canterbury Tales this weekend at the Dr. A.J. Ferlazzo Auditorium. The troupe is a group of homeschoolers ages 10 to 17 who practice at Sharron Baucom Dale City Recreation Center.

Prince William County is taking a different kind of approach to developing new biking, hiking and equestrian trails in the county.  Instead of telling residents which projects are important, the Board of County Supervisors and Park Authority created a way for citizens advise them.

This fall, construction workers are finishing a long-awaited project behind Hellwig Administration building. The Park Authority is building baseball fields to serve as the new home of Coles Little League. The fields, which have been under construction since March, will replace those at the Landfill. A $4.5 million bond is paying for the fields, lighting, sodding, parking and a league building.

The Park Authority will hold the first in a series of community meetings on the redesigning of the Skate Park at Veterans Memorial Park in Woodbridge. The initial meeting will be November 12th from 7pm to 9pm at Veterans Park Community Center.
