More than 40 skate enthusiasts came out to Veterans Memorial Park on Tuesday for the second meeting in a series determining a design for Vets’ skatepark.
The Park Authority is renovating the 20-year-old skatepark at Vets and seeking community input. At a meeting last month, skaters told contracted design firm American Ramp Company what they would like to see in the park and submitted their own designs. ARC returned to this meeting with three designs drawn in response to the earlier suggestions and asked skaters to pick the best of the three designs.
Design 1

The first design was a clear favorite. Many praised it for having good flow; it’s easy to move between the street skating elements and the ramps/bowls. Others liked the two separate bowls.
Design 2

Design 3

They dismissed the second and third designs as having too much wasted space.
Many of the attendees wanted a few additional changes to the first design. They asked ARC to stagger the street skating elements to create more flow. They also wanted the vert ramp rotated 90% so it wouldn’t face into the sun.
A third meeting will take place in mid- to late- January. ARC is compiling the input from the meeting – all the participants of the meeting completed comment sheets – and will present one final design and get additional input.
