Also on the agenda for 2010 are several new trail constructions. The Park Authority works in conjunction with local non-profit Prince William Trails and Stream Coalition to build and maintain trails around the county. Here are our biggest projects for the New Year.

Lake Jackson Dam: As part of the Potomac River Watershed Cleanup on April 10, the Park Authority will organize a trash and debris clean up in the area. The clean up will make way for another project: installing a canoe launch at Lake Jackson.

Broad Run Trail: A 5K run will be held on this Bristow-area trail in April. In preparation for the race, the Park Authority will pick up the trail and resolve drainage issues there.

Locust Shade: This year, we will extend this park’s trail to meet the Semper Fidelis Trail, which extends south from the Marine Corps Heritage Museum. The trail will be built upon the old King’s Highway, the first north-south route through Virginia.

What would you like to see done in 2010?

I like this! I hope we can get more interconnected trails though. It seems like the trails in this county are very disjointed. Keep up the good work though!

I like that the trail is going to be connected. Is the trail around the pond going to cleaned up?
