It’s a wrap! Yesterday, at the final Veteran Memorial Park skatepark design meeting, attendees settled on a design for the new park. It features a mix of street skating elements, bowls and a vert ramp.
The design is a slightly altered version of design #1 from the December meeting. The vert ramp was rotated 90%, the kidney pool deepened and the street area rearranged to create better flow. See below:

Next Steps
So what happens now? Even though the design has been selected, the park is far from finished.
The next step for the Park Authority is to work with American Ramp Company to draw up construction documents and submit them to the county for approval. This will take between 60 and 75 days. Also included in this step is a cost estimate, which will allow the Park Authority to figure out if the plan is within the $300K to $400K budget.
After the construction documents are approved, the Park Authority will solicit bids for building contractors. Finally, the actual skatepark construction will take anywhere from three to six months.
The Park Authority is planning to have another community meeting in early April. The main topic of discussion will be funding. We will know by then if our budget will cover the proposed design plan. If it won't, this meeting will discuss options, such as fundraisers and dividing the construction into stages.
